Drapers Award Winners 2009

Tom Singh, the founder of fast-fashion chain New Look, was awarded the Drapers Lifetime Achievement Award last night, as the fashion industry gathered to celebrate the best retailers and brands in the market.

Fast-fashion chain New Look won the Larger Multiple of the Year Award and founder, Singh was awarded the Drapers Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his contribution to the industry. Singh founded New Look 40 years ago with one store in Taunton, Somerset. This month the retailer opened it’s 1000th store.

The winner of the Independent Retailer of the Year went to Middlesbrough-based Van Mildert, which swept the board, also walking away with the award for Young Fashion Retailer of the Year for its Darlington store and Menswear Retailer of the Year for its store in Gateshead.

Menswear Brand of the Year went to Polo Ralph Lauren, Womenswear Brand of the Year went to Sandwich and Young Fashion Brand of the Year went to Lyle & Scott, while Luke was Highly Commended.

Humbug in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, won Kidswear Retailer of the Year and Topshop and Topman won the award for Best New Store or Department for its New York shop, which opened in April.

  • It was a great night. It was good to see so many people still prepared to celebrate in spite of the current climate. There were also some really worthy winners, like Van Mildert. Retailers have worked harder than ever this year and this truly deserves recognition. Congratulations to all.
