The last seven days have witnessed some seriously high-profile celebrity weddings led of course by Kate Moss’ nuptials, during which she wore a stunning veil and a slightly surprising ethereal gown by John Galliano. The groom Jamie Hince opted for a Yves Saint Laurent 3db pale blue suit.
Moss’s full-length gown was characterised by its high-cut sheer skirt panels, which afforded the congregation a glimpse of her supermodel thighs, while the dress also had sheer straps, which fell into a V-neck. It was classic Galliano in its bias-cut slip shape and was decorated with tiny floral embroisery as well as a smattering of metallic embroidery, which cascaded down the skirt into a glittering pool around the hemline.
It was the veil though that really stole the show. It was full-length to the floor and made from the most delicate honeycomb net, decorated again with fine-grade embroidery and sporadic sequins. It was pinned into her loose hair, which made for a real boho-Moss type style.
Galliano himself, although still knee-deep in controversy as he awaits the outcome of his trial for alleged racist slander, attended the wedding. He is a long-standing friend of Moss having dressed her for other high-profile occasions including landmark birthdays. It will be interesting to see the affect the exposure has on the Galliano label and designer himself long-term.
Many of the pictures of Moss’ weekend wedding have been kept under wraps after she signed a deal for the photos to appear in the famous September issue of US Vogue but there were a few glimpses of the bridesmaids who all wore Stella McCartney. The maid of honour appeared in a stunning blue McCartney dress while the younger bridesmaids wither wore a similar style in a nude shade or a pretty white short-sleeved dress.
Elsewhere the will-she-won’t-she Charlotte Wittstock, did choose to marry her Prince Albert of Monaco on Friday opting for a very different style gown to both Kate Middleton and Kate Moss.
Her dress was a simple and elegant off-the-shoulder white satin number created by Giorgio Armani and decorated with thousands of Swarovski crystals, which snaked from the neck to the ankle. She too wore a veil, which stretched for yards behind her down the aisle, in two layers of plain net and fabric which matched her dress.
Meanwhile the congregation opted for very similar styles and trends to those witnessed at Kate Middleton’s wedding with strong colours, particularly blue, contrasting with a neutral colour pallette on dresses and lace stealing the show.
Meanwhile some brownie points should be awarded to Abbey Clancey for her choice of designer at her wedding to footballer Peter Crouch last week. Clancey opted for London Fashion Week designer Giles Deacon who created an impressive white 1950s-style corset-bodice, which was elongated to mid-thigh before overflowing into full-on tiered and layered skirt. Of course it was strapless, as would be obligitary for any self-respecting WAG (and at one point revealed a little more than she bargained for), but Clancey generally done good.
All this begs the question how will these brides influence fashion trends in the coming seasons? Well there will almost certainly be a filtering through of the Clancey corset shape and skirt into the eveningwear collections while Moss’ ethereal gown will likely straddly both daywear maxi-dresses through to slightly dressier attire, as we are likely to see from Pippa Middleton’s bridesmaid dress.
Wittstock’s gown (and husband) though are probably best left alone.
