Birthday honours for fashion retailers

The fashion director of Marks & Spencer, Belinda Earl, and the founder of Felicities fashion agency are among those being celebrated in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Earl has been awarded OBE for services to retail, while Felicities founder Alison Lowe received an MBE for services to the fashion industry. Adetola Kunle Hassan, founder of the lingerie brand Nubian Skin, which creates nude underwear for all skin tones also received an MBE, as did model Erin O’Connor.

Commenting on her MBE, Lowe said: “I am humbled that I should be considered for such an award. I have always been passionate about supporting emerging fashion designers and I have been lucky to work with so many talented young people. I could not have achieved this honour without the support of my daughters, family, friends and the hard work of numerous colleagues over many years.”

Mint Velvet founder Liz Houghton was also celebrating this weekend, as she picked up her OBE for services to business and charity, which was awarded earlier this year.
