British Fashion Council sharpens business focus

British Fashion Council (BFC) chairman Stephanie Phair has said the organisation will embrace change and outlined a renewed focus on business, as she opened the spring 19 edition of London Fashion Week at 180 Strand on Friday.

Phair, who took the helm of the BFC in May, said: “We will offer a programme for more businesses and their teams to access support, expertise and information needed to grow their businesses.

“Digital will play a key part: we now consider it a transversal muscle flexed in everything we do. Google has offered dedicated leads on all pillars to challenge and support us on our initiatives.

“We are appointing high-level mentors, to help inspire designers, create a team on mentors in their area of expertise and create toolkits relevant for designer businesses. We will bring together CEOs from broader businesses to identify challenges and share knowledge to overcome these.”

Victoria Beckham joined the London Fashion Week schedule on the 10th anniversary of the brand. Burberry will also present its first collection under its new creative officer, Riccardo Tisci.

Other notable presentations include Gayeon Lee, Nabil Nayal, Molly Goddard, JW Anderson, Anya Hindmarch, Delpozo, Johnstons of Elgin and Ports 1961 

Richard Quinn will close London Fashion Week, which runs on 14-18 September.
