Christmas spending to drop

Christmas spending among UK consumers is expected to drop this year to £60bn, research by American Express has found.

UK sales over the 2017 Christmas period reached £76bn.

The research revealed that 25% of shoppers plan to use cash-back, rewards and points to supplement Christmas spend, and 23% of shoppers are on the lookout for offers, promotions and sales.

American Express said the average British shopper will part with £1,206 this Christmas, down from £1,551, including £68 on new clothes and £295 on gifts.
