Exclusive: Christos Angelides looks to Next for new hires

Christos Angelides is bolstering the buying and merchandising team at Reiss by poaching people from his former employer, Next, Drapers understands.

Sources have indicated that Angelides has been recruiting a number of former colleagues, including buyer Amber Bullock.

Bullock joined Next in 2012 as a trainee buyer and has worked her way up to womenswear buyer on wovens. She is understood to be working her notice period and will join Reiss in October.

A merchandiser and an assistant merchandiser are also thought to be leaving Next to join Reiss.

Anglelides spent 28 years at Next, 14 of which were on the main board as group product director.

He left in October 2014 to become president of Abercrombie & Fitch. However, he abruptly departed the US retailer just over a year later, in December 2015, and returned to the UK.

He joined Reiss as chief executive at the end of March, succeeding Drapers’ Lifetime Achievement award-winner David Reiss, who founded the business 46 years ago and remains as chairman.

His appointment at Reiss was welcomed by industry insiders, who praised his product knowledge.

Reiss declined to comment and Next did not respond to requests for comment.

  • Not surprising- a great move for Amber Bullock and all others who are going to Reiss. Beautiful product, a clear target customer and a confident strategy...unlike all retailers in the middle market on the high street!
