Debenhams in talks to rent flagship space to flexible workers

Debenhams is reportedly in discussions to rent out excess floor space at its flagship Oxford Street, London store to hot-desking provider WeWork.

Talks are at an early stage, according to Bloomberg. The retailer is seeking to partner with companies willing to take over unused space across its 240 department stores,

While retailers have been known to look at filling space through partnerships with other retailers, cafes or restaurants, Debenhams is thought to be one of the first to look at office providers.

Separately, Debenhams has announced it is partnering with French furniture and home décor brand Maisons du Monde on shop-in-shops at its department stores in Westfield London, Birmingham and Manchester.

The shop-in-shop partnership will launch in spring 18.
