Glossop independent womenswear store Anna Perena is to close at the end of the summer after 14 years of trading.
The store was opened in 2004 by mother and daughter duo Sheila and Emma Burton, and stocks brands such as The Masai Clothing Company, Sandwich and Capri.
Sheila Burton told Drapers: “There have been several reasons why we have decided to shut the shop. Emma left the company recently, so I have been looking after it since, business in general has become a lot harder, and then in November we found out that my husband is ill.”
There is no set date for the closure, but the shop is expected to shut towards the end of August this year.
“The closing date depends on our stock as we have quite a lot of stuff still in the shop,” said Burton. “It also depends on our landlord and whether he can find someone to fill the shop after we’ve left.”
Commenting on the tough trading conditions on the high street, Burton added: “It’s not just us. A couple of other womenswear boutiques in the area have also closed down. People are just browsing and not really buying anything. I was in the Trafford Centre in Manchester recently and there are loads of people but they’re not carrying shopping bags.”
