Donna Karan and DKNY go fur-free

G-III, the parent company of DKNY and Donna Karan, has announced that the brands will be fur-free in 2019.

CEO of G-III Morris Goldfarb said that the company would stop using fur as a result of the company’s long-standing relationship with the Humane Society of the United States.

The announcement came as G-III announced its fourth-quarter and full-year fiscal earnings for 2018. Net sales grew 17.6 per cent to $2.81 billion (£1.98m) for the year to 31 January.

Humane Society International’s director of international media, Wendy Higgins, said: “HSI is delighted that since Gucci declared fur to be ‘outdated’, designers have been racing to prove their relevance by dropping the archaic material. In the latest designer declaration, this morning brands DKNY and Donna Karan pledged to ban fur cruelty from their collections, following hot on the heels of Versace and the city of San Francisco, marking the end of a fantastic week for fur-bearing animals.”

  • From David Baileys hard hitting anti-fur catwalk advert in the 1980s, to numerous high profile campaigns since (including supermodels for what its worth), why have these companies chosen to make a stand now? The public has always been aware of anti-fur issues, so why have these companies not acted years ago?
Could it be that their customer's opinion is changing, so their product needs to keep up accordingly - to maintain profits?
