Exclusive: Redundancies at Monsoon

Monsoon is making up to 14 staff redundant as part of a restructure, that will see the retailer’s space planning team substantially reduced, Drapers has learned.

Staff have been placed into consultation and some of the space planning responsibilites will be taken over by other areas of the business including merchandising, Drapers understands.

A spokesman for Monsoon Accessorize said: “The current trading environment remains difficult across the retail industry and Monsoon Accessorize is no exception. We have recently started consultation on a small number of jobs in our head office.”

One industry source said the changes are a natural progression for Monsoon: “[Monsoon] has a big team and they are making some changes. I think what’s going on there is going on everywhere else.”

Another industry source added: “Space planning is seen as a luxury. It isn’t necessary if you have your merchandising people oversee your store layout and planning.”
