Footfall drops across the UK

A slight shift in the date of September’s pay weekend may explain the 2.7% drop in footfall last week, compared to the same period last year, Springboard reports.

Shopping centres were hit hardest with the biggest annual decline of 3.5%. High street footfall also dropped 2.7% in the week beginning 30 October.

The downwards trends were uniform across all parts of the UK, with the east of England and the East Midlands suffering the worst high street declines of 8.2% and 6.5% respectively, compared to 2017.
