Primark announces opening date of Hastings store

Primark has announced its new Hastings store will open on Wednesday 6 March.

The two-floor store with 30,000sq ft of retail space was originally set to open in summer 2018 and will create more than 120 new jobs. It will stock the retailer’s full range.

Located in Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, owned by NewRiver, the space was previously occupied by BHS.

The new store comes as it is confirmed that Topshop and Topman will leave Priory Meadow in April 2018, and River Island will close in May.

Last month Primark announced that it will continue its eastern European expansion with a new store in Poland.

Chief executive of NewRiver, Allan Lockhart said: ”We’re delighted that Primark, one of the country’s best in class value fashion operators, will be opening its doors at our shopping centre in Hastings, Priory Meadows in March. The new store re-activates the former BHS unit following our work with Primark’s team to take the store, as it wasn’t initially on their target list of towns.

It will provide an excellent new offer for the centre and town and demonstrates the attraction of the NewRiver portfolio and moreover that there is buoyancy and growth in the value and discount end of the retail market, notably for physical space as Primark famously has no online retail offer.”

  • Great news for the Hastings town centre, a central and prominent unit that will support footfall moving forwards. Good stuff.
