Maidenhead shopping centre enters receivership

Nicholsons Shopping Centre in Maidenhead has entered receivership, after the privately owned mall became unable to meet its debts.

Business advisory firm BDO has been appointed as receivers, and has enlisted CBRE to sell the shopping centre.

The shopping centre was owned by property specialist Vixcroft and hedge fund Cheyne Capital who bought the centre from Irish Life for £37m in 2015.

Around 175 privately owned shopping centres are thought to be similarly at risk, with owners who bought the properties earlier in the decade now facing the impact of a struggling bricks and mortar retailers and increasing insolvencies and company voluntary arrangements (CVA) deals seeing stores close.
