Mickey Drexler to step down as J Crew CEO

J Crew chief executive Mickey Drexler is to step down after 14 years at the helm of the US retailer.

Drexler will stay on as chairman and will be succeeded as CEO by former West Elm boss Jim Brett.

“This is an exciting time for J Crew as we continue to make significant changes to position our company for long-term success,” Drexler said in a statement. “As chairman and an owner of the company, it is my responsibility to focus on the future of J Crew and find the right leadership to execute on our strategic plans.”

The news comes just months after Jenna Lyons, president and executive creative director at J Crew, announced she was leaving the business in April. Lyons, who had held the role since 2012, will remain as creative director until the end of this year.
