Mimco prepares for UK launch

Australian accessories retailer Mimco will launch in the UK in September, opening six stores.

Mimco, which will also open eight House of Fraser concessions, will compete with the likes of Anya Hindmarch, Coccinelle and DKNY, and plans to open up to 30 shops within the next three years.

The standalone stores will range from 350sq ft to 700sq ft. Five will open in London, in Notting Hill, Covent Garden, King’s Road, Marylebone High Street and White City, while another will open in Brighton.

The HoF concessions will range from 100sq ft to 300sq ft.

General manager for operations Gregg Puchert said there was a “great deal of potential” for Mimco to grow in the UK.
“Our research indicates that the UK market for accessories has grown tremendously over the past five years and will continue to do so,” he said.

“Our current plan is to open about 30 of our own boutiques in the next three years, potentially with a similar number of House of Fraser concessions. We believe that our culture of excellent customer service and our in-store experience will be a differentiating factor.”

Mimco’s offer includes handbags, jewellery, hats and scarves, priced from £30 to £250. The firm has 26 stores in Australia. It will open a London head office.
