Obituary: Fashion journalist Marie Scott

Veteran journalist Marie Scott, who spent more than 50 years writing on British fashion, especially menswear and the luxury sector, was killed in a road traffic accident on May 7. She was in her early seventies.

Marie Scott

For most of her career Scott was associated with John Taylor, the legendary editor of The Tailor & Cutter magazine. The pair worked together from the early 1960s until Taylor’s death in December 2003 and became life partners as well as business partners.

After leaving T&C in the early 1970s, the inseparable couple published a series of titles that promoted bespoke tailoring, British luxury goods, travel and fine living, including Style Magazine.

For a short period in the mid-1980s Scott was editor of Men’s Wear, then the brother publication of Drapers Record.

After Taylor’s death, Scott continued to work in the luxury sector. She had only recently sold her last venture, Savile Row Style Magazine, to a new owner.

She died instantly after being hit by a motorcycle close to her home in north London.
