Sainsbury's Tu to launch GFW collections

Sainsbury’s is launching collections designed by two of last year’s winners of Graduate Fashion Week.

Laura Gillings from Bath Spa University won the Tu womenswear scholarship at GFW last year and has created a collection under the mentorship of Henry Holland.

The supermarket has also brought on Nottingham Trent University’s Amy Vanderwal, who won the Tu menswear scholarship, to create a collection under the tutorship of Oliver Spencer.

As part of the prize for winning Graduate Fashion week, Gillings and Vanderwal will spend a year working with Sainsbury’s to re purpose their winning designs for the consumer market.

The womenswear collection, which has been named ‘The Hype of the Stripe’, takes inspiration from bold and unabashed 1960’s tailoring and The Rolling Stones.

The menswear collection takes its inspiration from the 1980s, with a collection entitled ‘Stay Punk’.

 Both Womenswear and Menswear collections will be available on Tu.co.uk from 29 May, with a second collection launching for autumn 18.

  • Interesting. TUs internal tagline less than four years ago was that they’d “never compete with fashion retailers” or something to that effect
