Menswear tailoring and accessories brand Simon Carter is to expand its retail presence into Africa as the brand plots expansion through franchise partnerships.
The brand, which already wholesales in the country, will open its first store in Ghanaian capital, Accra, next month.
Simon Carter, owner of the eponymous menswear brand, said: “I am more excited about the potential in Africa in the short to medium term than I am about growth in China.” He added that there is a “rapidly emerging middle class who love British brands”. Carter said the British sense of style and colour has always worked well in West Africa.
Carter added that the brand has had a number of inquiries for stores in Nigeria although no concrete plans have been made. Simon Carter wholesales in just under 40 countries, with Australia and Japan among the biggest markets.
Carter said: “We’d always be up for an opportunity to [open stores in new markets] and I am always keen to work with experts on the ground.”
The brand is also looking to expand in the UK. It currently has two London stores, one on Lambs Conduit street and another on Shepherd Market, a franchise store in Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire. Carter said negotiations to open a second franchise store are underway.
Over the next three years Simon Carter intends to open six to 10 stores across the UK and has highlighted locations such as Chiswick, Primrose Hill, Brighton and Burford in Oxfordshire as possible sites.
