International expansion was the name of the game for Schuh managing director Colin Temple in 2015. The footwear chain opened its first store outside of the UK and Ireland, in the east German city of Oberhausen in March and now has three stores in the country. The company has plans for a further five to 10 shops next year in Germany and The Netherlands.
The good news continued for Temple this year when he revealed Schuh was to share a £25m payout among almost 3,500 employees as profits reached £11.5m for the year to February 1 2015. When US footwear manufacturer Genesco acquired Schuh in 2011 for £125m it was agreed that a bonus scheme should be put in place to reward staff if targets were met over a four-year period, which they were. Sales were up 7.6% to £247.5m for the year.
