The affable Ed Connolly slips a place this year after John Lewis’s fashion sales flagged over the summer. But that belies the fact that Connolly has overseen some interesting developments in its fashion offer this year.
Continuing its focus on growing house brands, in September John Lewis launched new womenswear label Modern Rarity. An antithesis to fast fashion, the 90-piece collection offers “accessible luxury”.
For the autumn 16 collection of Modern Rarity John Lewis teamed up with London-based shirting brand Palmer Harding to create a capsule collection of five shirts. Receiving an excellent review in the fashion press, Modern Rarity has reaffirmed John Lewis’s reputation for quality product. A £9m revamp of all the stores’ beauty halls is also on Connolly’s agenda.
