Another new entry to the Top 100, Simon Hill-Norton founded Sweaty Betty with his wife, Tamara, in 1998. Today the brand has 40 UK stores, as well as 10 in the US.
Capitalising on the booming athleisure market, the brand grew sales by 16% to £40.6m in the year to 25 December 2016, and pre-tax profits rocketed 86% to £507,866.
The brand was an early pioneer of the experiential retail phenomenon, offering free workouts across its stores. It took this to new levels with the opening of a new flagship on London’s Carnaby Street in September, which houses a full workout studio, cafe and beauty bar alongside its clothing offer.
