Anders Holch Povlsen is a retail billionaire with fingers in many fashion pies. He is the sole owner of Danish fashion house Bestseller, which was established by his parents in 1975 in the small town of Ringkobing.
Bestseller has 11 brands, including Jack & Jones, Only and Vero Moda. Between them, they have 15,000 stockists worldwide. It also operates 2,700 branded chain stores across 38 markets. In 2016/17, the company’s turnover increased 5% to €3bn (£2.7bn).
As well as owning Bestseller, Holch Povlsen increased his stake in Asos to more than 29% in 2017. He also has a stake in German etailer Zalando, and owns more than 1% of all land in Scotland through his not-for-profit landowner, Wildland. Earlier this year he added to his retail estate when he bought Edinburgh department store Jenners’ building at 47-52 Princes Street for £53m.
