NEW ENTRY

Marco Capello, Blue Gem Capital Partners

Marco Capello’s appearance on the Top 100 reflects the growing influence of his private equity firm, BlueGem Capital Partners. The company, which has owned London department store Liberty since 2010, entered into a partnership with Jack Wills founder Peter Williams (number 72) to buy the retailer last October.

At Liberty, with no managing director or CEO, the buck stops with Capello. Sales rose 5% to £74.5m in the year to 28 January, while operating profit rose 2% to £6.4m. Liberty embarked on a regeneration of nine departments in just eight months, in a bid to put the shopper back at its heart.
