Tis the season! Iconic London hotel Claridge’s has unveiled its 2018 Christmas tree designed by Diane von Furstenberg. Entitled ‘The Tree of Love’, the design is inspired by ancient traditions of the astrological world and features 8,000 hand-painted silver-leafed leaves, glass spheres and 150 hand-blown glass hearts. To complement the tree, throughout the Claridge’s lobby there are structural arches of silver leaves intertwined with fairy lights and hand-blown Murano glass baubles.
A wellspring of talent: Drapers joined director Shiv Sensarma (centre left) and chairman Ashish Sensarma (centre right) at a drinks reception for their new digital recruitment platform, Talent Tin. The company connects fashion brands with the best creative freelance talent. Hosted at The Union in Soho, the party was attended by Jack Wills CEO Suzanne Harlow (right), former Coast CEO Kate Bostock (left) and luxury expert Jens Laugesen (back), among others.
Ripping up the rulebook: Vivienne Westwood has opened an exhibition focused on its iconic footwear, which is famous for flouting convention and the rules of wearability. The exhibition at Victoria Gate in Leeds takes visitors though the last 40 years of the brand’s shoe archive. A limited edition run of the Seditionaries Boots, named after one of Westwood’s early stores, will be available to order from its outlet in the nearby Victoria Quarter. The exhibition is open until 16 December.
The Scouse factor: Shopping centre Liverpool One has been open for 10 years and, to mark its anniversary, co-owner Grosvenor Europe has assessed its contribution to the city and the UK. It says Liverpool One has contributed £1.6bn to the UK Exchequer, created 4,700 jobs and delivered £1.20 of every £100 of Liverpool’s GVA (gross value added). The centre has also donated £2m to the local community over the past decade via the Liverpool One Foundation, which supports community projects.
