Oliver Woodhouse

The head of merchandising, Select, aged 32

With more than 11 years of operational experience already under his belt at value chains Peacocks and QS, Oliver Woodhouse is now helping put Select, which was bought out of administration in March 2008 by Turkish supplier Cafer Mahiroglu, back on the retail map.

He says the advantage of his relative youth is that he’s not too weighed down by preconceived ideas. “I think you’re coming to the job fairly fresh and you can use the knowledge you have gained from managers you’ve had to be the best manager you can be. I think you just have to prove that despite your age you have got experience. I’ve been in retail for 16 years.”

Woodhouse first started working for Peacocks in the evenings when he was still studying business administration at The University of Wales in Cardiff. His long-term ambition is to be chief executive of a major business.
