Alexander McQueen

Spring 12

The look Sophisticated sea goddesses striding from the ocean depths.

Key pieces Inspired by creatures of the sea, creative director Sarah Burton showed a collection full of gilded fabrics and striking silhouettes. Pencil skirts had peplum hems that Burton wanted to move as if like jellyfish. Peplums trimmed jackets and texture came in the form of ruffled and layered fabrics. Jacket shoulders had the typically defined Alexander McQueen handwriting.

Colours Gilded fabrics shimmered in apricot, gold, black and pearl.

Commercial appeal Chanel and Givenchy were also influenced by marine life, which will set it up to be a strong trend for spring 12. The peplum pencil skirts will be a strong contender commercially in addition to the evening dresses with hi-lo hem and cutaway décolletage.
