Harvey Nichols’ new group fashion buying director Laura Larbalestier shares her highlights from the third day of the spring 19 edition of London Fashion Week
Why do you attend LFW?
It’s important we attend London Fashion Week to support British talent. We are lucky because this city is always the place to discover new brands and is still the leading city for creativity.
Are there any LFW brands that perform well for Harvey Nichols?
Now that we have four floors dedicated to womenswear in our Knightsbridge flagship store, we have recently given several British brands their own shop in shops, such as Roksanda, Erdem and Peter Pilotto. It is exciting to see how these brands have evolved in such a short period of time and are performing well.
What are you looking for in the shows this season?
I’m looking for new ideas from brands we currently buy, as well as new up and coming designers.
How was today at LFW?
There’s a great mood in London this season. I noticed there are lots of international buyers and press in town for the shows this weekend and I think that’s because people really understand that it’s important to come to London Fashion Week.
What collections have stood out?
The standout show for me today was Victoria Beckham, who celebrated the brand’s 10th anniversary. I’m so pleased that she decided to show this collection in London this season. Other highlights for me today were Peter Pilotto and Simone Rocha.
Are there any trends that are emerging from the collections so far?
So far I’ve noticed the return of something more glamorous this season: each brand is showing its own identity in a really strong way, rather than focusing on trends, which I really love.
How was New York?
New York was great. It’s nice to see some designers emerging there who really reflect the city in a younger more authentic way.
