Who owns the high street: the Kamani family and Carol Kane

Boohoo, BoohooMan, PrettyLittleThing, Nasty Gal

Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane’s burgeoning Boohoo Group has grown to include US brand Nasty Gal and fellow trend-led young fashion brand PrettyLittleThing, which was founded by Kamani’s son, Umar. It bought a 66% stake in PrettyLittleThing owner 21 Three Clothing for £3.3m in December 2016, with an option to buy the remainder in 2022.

Manchester-based Boohoo bought the intellectual property rights and customer databases of US womenswear etailer Nasty Gal for $20m (£16m) in February 2017. Group revenue doubled in the four months to 31 December 2017 year on year. Mahmud Kamani owns a 16.3% stake in Boohoo, and his siblings, Jalaludin, Rabia and Nurez, hold 6%, 5.7% and 5.4% respectively. Kane retains a 4.03% stake after selling £10.7m of shares last September.
